Helping to start the Christmas Countdown and get everyone into the festive spirit, the Narberth Winter Carnival is held on the first Saturday in December. Lead by the Narberth Town Crier, along with Santa and the Snow Queen.

The carnival has gone from strength to strength and has raised thousands for local charities as Narberth Winter Carnival does not keep any of the money raised on the day, we give all of the money to nominated local charities and in essence start from scratch each and every year.

Narberth Winter Carnival was set-up in 1991 after a visit to the Guy Fawkes Carnival in the West Country. After this experience the founder members of Narberth Winter Carnival set about starting our own celebration to bring a bit of warmth to an otherwise cold time of year and provided the people of Narberth and indeed the whole of the county with something to look forward to after the summer has ended.

“So what’s in store for Narberth Winter Carnival 06…

“This years Winter Carnival celebration will be started off by an afternoon of fun and laughter at the Panto….’Oh no it won’t….oh yes it will’.

“Dick Whittington is a two-hour family pantomime in the traditional style, with plenty of fun, slapstick comedy and children’s songs produced by The Fame Factory, who are one of the leading production teams in the country.

“Doors open at 1pm with the show starting at 2pm. Tickets are £5 and are available from Narberth Swimming Pool, Williams Vision and Queens Hall.

“Grand Illuminated Parade from 7pm.

“The main event this year will feature a New Orleans Funeral Marching Band to lead the parade with the usual array of floats and walkers all bidding to win one of the most sort after NWC trophies, this year provided by Total Refinery.

“Grand Firework Display, again taking place at Narberth’s Rugby Club. Entrance to the field will be £1 per person.

“Kicking off the night are local favorites Session Head who will be providing us with some low key dirty rock and roll, Persona B who stormed this years Celtic Blue Rock and with the release of their album on Pembrokeshire’s Tidy Like Records are set to take the music world by storm. Also appearing are Plymouth based Full Speed Alone with ties to the Tenby area this will be kind of a home coming for them.

“Headlining this year are the Cardiff”s surf rockers The Blims the most popular band in West Wales and easily the nicest bunch of lads your ever going to meet, so come along and meet them and enjoy the end to another successful winter carnival.

The committee was formed at the beginning of 2009 and work began on this year’s carnival. This year, there is a Narberth Winter Carnival, but I have to say I cannot claim credit for making it happen. I began process, but without the absolutely brilliant committee, it would never have come to life.

Since the carnival has been back, we have had very good support from the sponsors, businesses, townsfolk and visitors alike and it is you who make the carnival happen, as without the monies raised throughout the year, the event would not go ahead.

We are a small committee, but my grateful thanks go to them all as, although the event is only one day, the arrangements start soon in the New Year and their support to me as chairman is second to none.

Narberth Winter Carnival is delighted to announce the Celebrity Guest Appearance of John McCririck, with thanks to the guys at Bet Ed in Narberth, the new bookmakers.

John will be appearing at the new Bet Ed store in Narberth on Saturday 3rd December from 1pm. He will also be putting his views in on the parade  and best floats, prior to his quick departure before the Carnival kicks off at 5.30.

People will be able to see John at the Parade Assembly point from 4.45pm and in the Bet Ed shop from 1pm. (St James Street). You can also get tips on races, autographs, pictures and more. So pay them a visit during the day!

Why not get a few work colleagues together and design a small float, based on whatever you like.

We’re really excited about the Winter Carnival, what better way to kick off December than to spend the day in Narberth.  Start (or finish) your Christmas shopping and enjoy the Carnival parade.  This year the entrants will be joined by Westside Allstars Comedy Band and Samba doc to enhance the festival atmosphere.

• 1pm Santa will be arriving in his grotto
• 3pm Children’s Disco by Andrew Jenkins in the RAOB club
• 5.30pm CARNIVAL PARADE

There will be carollers throughout the day to add to the festive atmosphere.
